Pure speculation at this point and totally unflattering to Oakland, but I'll take it.

Their home base, which is basically Contra Costa and Alameda counties, have over 2.5 million folks. Based on the population base and total income, they ought to be able to constructively support the team, and be fully competitive with a $80-100 million payroll.

If only it wasn't full of Giants fans, as they claim Santa Clara County to be...

Also, the Daily News is a tabloid.

Bill Madden has no credibility. What/Who is his source? He doesn't name anyone. Two months ago he wrote that the A's will be in moving to San Jose.

If you want a good take on that tabloid article read this:

^I dont mind a little non-credible writing in our favor tho. SJ has had 3 years worth of free media boosting laced with all sorts of unsubstantiated claims that we now know to be totally FALSE. In fact I expect a swift response by Mark Purdy who is probably feverishly writing something of the opposite effect of this article as we speak.

This years-long waiting game is getting ridiculous...Bud the Snake continues to hint a decison is coming, yet still nothing.

As opposed to the uproar of bewildered jubilation going on at the old folks home with Newhouse, Cohn and Dickey?

Yawn. But they dont use their platform to make sh*t up about how all signs are a go, when we now know that it appears a nuse is tightening around the whole San Jose thing.

In fact, Rich Lieberman put together this brutal assessment of how a SJ team would negatively affect the Giants:

Baseball is a business fo collusion. Given the blessing by congress. It's funny if you wanted to purchase a start up and google or facebook tried to collude to prevent you from buying it, you could take them to court in sue them.

But with baseball, its totally okay for them to shut guys like Mark Cuban out of baseball. Hell, look how they did the late steinbrener and pete rose. Or how about how free agency came to be after the owners lost in supreme court.

The owners are all in together and they all know whats going on and it's a unified movement. Let the giants milk 2010 until the buzz wears off, let the A's go to SJ, and be done with it.

I don't really even think the A's plan to outdraw the giants in SJ. The first diridon model had to go back to the drawing board because it was too low capacity. Even the current one on the table now gives it the lowest amount of seats in the MLB.

So? Wolff will continue to purge salary to keep the team crappy on a shoestring budget until he can relocate just like in the movie Major League. Spoken as an Angels fan, even I'm appalled at the way the A's are being handled. Such a storied franchise doesn't deserve this.
