The reason they want fewer seats is not becuase they don't think people are capable of attending, it is to increase demand, which leads to (1) sellouts or (2) higher prices. Thats why in the case of the current coliseum, they tarp over certain sections.

Also, the Daily News is a tabloid.
It's not just a claim. Majority of SC County are Giants fans (still, even with all the transplants who may not have had a pro Giants proclivity at the outset).

In fact, Rich Lieberman put together this brutal assessment of how a SJ team would negatively affect the Giants:
RICH LIEBERMAN 415 MEDIA
How blind are you to miss that a successful team in Oakland is more detrimental to the Giants than a successful team in San Jose? Everyone with money invested in this is fighting over one territory while saying "you can have the other one." MLB, the A's and Giants already know it won't happen in Oakland, otherwise the Giants would be welcoming the A's to move much further away than they are now.

And the East Bay is full of Giants fans, too. Why do you think the bridge and BART were packed for the parade? There is no imaginary line of allegiances down the middle of the region like some seem to think.

This is true, and I'd say at least half of those who go to games regularly live in the areas south and east of the Coliseum (Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont, etc) where a drive to downtown SJ isn't much further than they drive now. Once BART reaches San Jose I think public-transit wise it will be a wash either way.

Not in a million years is this even plausible. It makes me laugh in fact.

Larry Baer has stated on more than one occasion that losing San Jose would hurt them in such a way that they a payoff wouldnt be enough to make up for losses in attendance and revenue. Continuing to pretend that its easy as 1-2-3 for the Giants to lose Santa Clara is stupid, and tired.

So forgive me if I am just not drinking what your serving.

Then all you are doing is conceding that the A's would thrive more in San Jose. There is no reality in which the two teams would operate in bubbles, without influence from each other. A successful MLB franchise just 8 miles away is not something the Giants want, but it is something they've already dismissed as pure fantasy, which is why they can afford to gamble with forcing the A's hand.

If Giants fans are so committed, so passionate about their team, why would they turn on them so quickly if the regional rival moved to another part of the Bay? If you argue the convenience thing, then you're saying there's no loyalty to the team - just a bunch of people looking for a place to eat hot dogs and Cracker Jacks.

How you glean anything of the sort from anything in this thread is nonsense. LOL

From the article:

But no matter which teams stay in Oakland, they'll have to help pay for a new stadium if they still want one, said Ignacio De La Fuente, Oakland city councilman and chair of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum board.

"The Raiders and A's should be begging to stay in Oakland," he said. "It should not be the opposite."

And they wonder why the teams want to move. Would Clorox or Dryers beg to stay in Oakland if they got better deals to move elsewhere?
