Default Feelings of Detachment Before a Big Move?

So I posted another thread about this recently, but this one is a little different. Backstory is - I'm graduating college and making a permanent cross-country move from Philly to San Francisco in a couple of months. Between that and the fact that I'm graduating, many of my friends are moving around the country, and entering the "real world", I've been feeling somewhat detached lately. Knowing that I'm leaving has made me feel kind of apathetic / indifferent about my last few months here. I know this sounds terrible but I was wondering if anyone else has felt this way before a big and permanent move?

I actually just got a job straight out of undergrad in San Francisco and will be moving from Philly as well where I lived my whole life. I can see where the feeling of detachment comes from but I am more excited about the move than anything else. I guess as it gets closer those feelings may kick in. Now it just seems a bit surreal.

Haha, it's a small world! Yeah, I mean I knew that I was doing this move since I got my job offer, which was sometime last fall, so it's only started to really kick in now. I think the fact that I only have a few weeks of school left has intensified that, as well. Also, don't get me wrong, I am really excited! It's just been a bit emotional now that it's so close.

It happens. You think about the friends, people you are going to leave behind. The experiences you had will always be with you.

Getting excited about the new area usually follows though as the move gets closer.

You should enjoy it. I'm retired, I look for any opportunity to get far, far away now.

I'm, um, a few years ahead of you. I've done a few big moves. For me, mostly what I felt was excitement to be going here or there. I guess we all handle big moves differently and there isn't one way you should feel. You'll probably go through a range of feelings. It's pretty awesome though. Congrats on your new job and good luck!

It's normal, trust me:

Quarter-life crisis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You are lucky you are moving as young as you are. I waited until 5 years after graduating college to move away from my hometown. Now that I'm here I wish I had done it much, much earlier in life. No regrets though.

I did before I moved to California for a while, and then I said "screw it" and had as much fun as I could before I left

As everyone else has said, this seems normal. It happened to me right before I moved to San Diego. Then again, before I moved back here. Actually that was more of a complete disconnect because of my feelings on the whole thing. Either way, feeling detached is normal.

Please be heartened to know that you're moving to a city that offers an awful lot to people your age, and with more agreeable weather than what you're used to in Philadelphia. Good luck!

Yeah I'm trying to just enjoy the three months I have left in Philly, but it's definitely weird knowing that I'm permanently leaving. I know SF has a lot more to offer, so I am definitely excited about the move. I think it's more that I just don't want to wait so long for it.
