I haven't done this one yet, but an acquaintance who knows San Francisco well strongly recommended a ferry ride to Angel Island.
Getting To The Island - Angel Island State Park | San Francisco Bay
She recommended a hike to the peak for the 360 degree view around the bay. (If you go on a clear day, of course.)

One last question: Winchester Mystery House. Worth seeing? I like poking through old houses (I'm the sort of person who goes to local open houses just for fun), I like Tiffany Glass, and I like odd ball things like stars that go nowhere, so it sounds like something that might be interesting for me. OTOH it's $30.
Is it worth it or a tourist trap?

I haven't been so consider that, but I've heard it's a BIG tourist trap.

It's worth seeing if you're in the area. I grew up in part in the San Jose area so I've been there numerous times... in a way the story behind the house is more interesting than the house itself but some of the stuff can't really be effectively described without just seeing it.
