The Fox Oakland Theater, on Telegraph Avenue between 18th and 19th Streets, operated as a first-run movie house from 1928 until 1962. Today it hosts concerts by various recognizable artists such as Seal, Green Day, Wolfmother, Alice in Chains, Kylie Minogue, Animal Collective & The Decemberists. The Theater is the centerpiece of the revitalized Uptown District section of Oakland that features fine dining, a thriving nightlife, and 2,000 new residential development units.

World class is right. I love the exhibits. I saw the "1968" exhibit last year and really enjoyed it.

Claremont Hotel and Spa

Located high in the Oakland/Berkeley Hills, this landmark hotel and resort sets new heights in service, amenities, and accommodations. While its 279 rooms all offer a mix of old world charm and California comfort, no two are alike. Each has its own distinct appeal – breathtaking Bay views, PURE allergy-friendly accommodations, a spacious suite for families, a comforting space for one traveler. The blue-and-gold décor harkens to the Claremont’s rich history, originally a romantic castle at the start of the Gold Rush and later a grand hotel during the Age of Romanticism...Enjoy the fitness center, salon, spa, tennis courts and restaurant.

USS Potomac

Affectionately dubbed the Floating White House by the press, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's presidential yacht is one of the few floating museums in the country. The restored 165-foot vessel, a national historic landmark, is a memorial to FDR and his accomplishments. The Potomac offers cruise opportunities to visit Angel Island, The Bay Model, The Bridges of the Bay and the Islands of the Bay. You can cruise and learn about the history of San Francisco Bay and FDR’s role in its development. If you are not up for a cruise quite yet, take a Dockside tour. Walk in the footsteps of presidents and kings. Enjoy a 45 minute Docent-lead Dockside tour on any Wednesday, Friday or Sunday.

OK a few more of my faves:
1. Grand Lake Farmers Market
2. Joaquin Miller Park
3. Redwood Regional Park
4. Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt
5. I'd arrange a little walking coffee tour > start at Grand Lake Farmers Market, and have an Ethiopian Coffee service at Anfilo (I believe Romanat does these as well). Then stop at Monkey Forest Road for the Balinese art and the gluten free treats. Then across the street to Boot and Shoe for the patio and tasty pizza or other treats. Then up Grand, through the Rose Garden, down Monte Vista and up Piedmont Avenue to Timeless Coffee for the vegan treats. You could stop at Trieste on the way, but I think they have crappy coffee. That would be fun, and you'd get pretty good exercise.
6. Downtown coffee tour: Anfilo on Grand for the Ethiopian coffee service, Farley's on Grand for the Parklet, and local art. Awaken on Broadway for more local art or Bittersweet on Broadway for the Chocolate. And then down to Blue Bottle for a cupping or Gibraltar.

This is the permanent home of over 150 outstanding bonsai trees. Bonsai, 'pot culture' in Japanese, captures the essence of giant trees and forests in miniature. Of particular interest is the Daimyo Oak, brought to the US in 1867. Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt is the home to some of the finest Bonsai on the west coast. The Bay Area hosts the only public bonsai collection at Oakland’s Lakeside Park. It was built, is staffed and maintained by volunteers and is supported entirely by donations.
