Yeah and excitement is not just a matter of parties and clubbing-thats fun for a while tho.

As far as excitement, between the masked anarchists, drug dealers, artists, hookers, protesters, activists, rappers, hipsters, brazen criminals, leftist radicals, punk rockers, intelletuals(psedo and otherwise) and vast array if characters that we come into contact with daily, I will say that there us never a dull moment in Oakland.

Yeah, there's more of a variety of things to do in Oakland than a lot of other places in the country.

Heart-pounding, non-stop action? Hardly. But never a dull moment, unless you're just a boring person who can't create fun

I was really surprised Oakland ranked so highly on the movie theater metric. Interesting!

Bmw, it's not an opinion piece. They give you their metrics right in the article. I love the metrics they go by. I can obviously agree with you on an opinion level, it's not the most exciting city in America. But based on those metrics, it is the top city for what they were determining, obviously.

San Diego isn't listed based on those metrics, but that doesn't mean it's not also one of my favorite cities in the U.S. I've considered this quite a bit, but I think my favorite cities (proper) in the U.S. are: San Diego, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, New Orleans, Charleston, and NYC.

Anyway, kudos to Oakland. Regardless of whether you personally enjoy Oakland, it has a lot of what someone would be looking for if they were looking for the types of things on that list of metrics (I happen to be that type of person).

Yeah, it's not like they invented the criteria just to make Oakland look good. They even talk about being surprised that Milwaukee ranked so high on the list.

Personally, I think online numbered lists/rankings are silly and meaningless, but given the metrics they used, I can see why Oakland ranked so high.

Exciting ? Do they count, trying to stay alive, as exciting. Dodging drive by's as exciting ? Then yes, Oakland gets my vote.
