I don't get how Five Guys is overrated. It started in DC (where I grew up) and it hasn't been in CA for very long. If anything In N Out is overrated- their burgers are way too thin and their meat has zero flavor. Animal style double doubles are OK for fast food, but it honestly takes forever to get your food and I would rather eat at Super Duper or True Burger if Im going to have to wait that long.

Not a huge fan of McD's fries anymore. I did enjoy Burger King's fries a LOT when they "changed" their fries and made a big marketing gimmick out of it, probably more than 10 years ago. Not sure how they are now.

Rally's fries were top notch too, imo.

For me, Carl's Jr is my favorite. I like In-N-out too when I want something more simple.

I wouldn't go that far, but I do gloat when I'm back in NYC that both Shake Shack and Five Guys just don't compare to an In-n-Out double-double.

I like Five Guys the best because I can order them with exactly the toppings I like, toppings which very few chains have: Green peppers, A1-sauce, tomatoes, pickles.

Among "off-the-shelf" burgers, without an extensive list of toppings to choose from, my favorite is In-N-Out.

In n' Out is ok for the price and for fast food. But I never liked their fries, they're like styrofoam (kinda weird considering they brag about how fresh and natural they are) and their burgers are super greasy. But certainly their burgers are better than BK's and way better than McD's or Wendy's...but I'd rather go for BK fries.

The Habit is a few bucks more than InO (like $6.50 for a burger, fries and a drink) and imo is way better. It's still fast food and the burger isn't that big, but all around their food is just really satisfying.

Carl's Jr's $6 burger actually has a really decent patty, but I don't like how they don't toast the bun, and they do the California thing of slathering it with mayo. Also their pickles suck.

The Counter is pretty awful for the price, dry and tasteless meat. For that price I'd much rather go to a place like Burgermeister or Burger Joint where you can get really really solid proper big burgers.

Ask for your fries "well done" and they will come out like fries at most fast food joints. They taste strange to you because the regular In-N-Out way is to lightly fry their potatoes in vegetable oil, so they are a bit crunchier without the grease.

100% agreed.

This trick works.

But my faves are TrueBurger in Oakland and Super Duper in SF. Yummy fries at both places, like old school McDs fries.

Fast food, fast food? Well I guess Carl's Jr as the burgers and fries are fairly tasty. Chicken tenders are horrible though.

But my fave fast food is Chickfila. When you get well done fries.

+1 for the habit!

If you carefully stare at the workers through the In N Out while in line, you can see them sometimes cutting up the potatoes for frying ... kinda amusing, actually.

What comes off my BBQ. From the wrap to plate in a few minutes. Considering I don't have to drive anywhere, much faster than any fast food place and much better too. None of that thin patty covered by what is usually a salad and a bun that is better used as paper.

I get it the way I want it, not the way some joint says 50 million other people get it. Notice how most fast food burgers are lukewarm even though thoroughly cooked? When was the last time you had a fast food burger that was really hot food?
