I want to leave but can't decide where I want to go. Seattle, NYC are on my short list but I'm not so sure.

Anyone in the same predicament? Where are you going? Or where would you recommend? I just want a change. Married couple household, income $250ish, here. Can live in most major cities.

Thanks.

Both of those seem like lateral moves. Seattle is like SF but with way worse weather. NYC is like SF but 10x more intense and hectic. What is compelling you to leave?

Seattle is like SF Bay Area but with worse weather, worse entertainment, and much worse social scene. You don't want to go there. You're moving just for the sake of "a change"? What about Marin Country? And does it have to be a "major" city? What about Santa Fe, NM? Great weather, multi-cultural (in a SW kind of way), lots of arts happening, great weather. Denver, or Boulder, or anywhere in CO would be great, too. Colorado is beautiful!

Seattle and NYC certainly won't be much cheaper. What kind of change are you looking for? It really depends what kind of city you want to live in.

Seattle is really great if you don't mind the weather. It is actually quite similar to SF, but you can live near downtown in an actual house with a yard. You can also live 20 minutes from downtown and live in a very family friendly wholesome area. You should check out Edmonds and Bellevue as well. I used to live there and it's great, just the weather sucks, but summers are great.

You need to provide why you want to leave, what types of environments appeal to you, and what your work industry is before any of us can provide helpful feedback.

What work do you do? Normally once you are making that much you are limited on where you can live. Also do you live in the city of San Francisco or the burbs?

Looking for somewhere vibrant, good entertainment, nightlife, restaurants, live music, arts. I can't do a spawlsville so it needs to be walkable or at least a happy medium. A good friend moved to an inner city burb of Austin and it seems fine enough, but Austin feels a bit too small for me I think.

Also somewhere child-friendly. I like cities, but SF doesn't seem child friendly at all. In comparison, Manhattan somehow seems child-friendly even though its far bigger/faster/denser. But it seems even more expensive so I'm not sure if it's worth paying these stupid ridiculous forever, even though I really love the place.

Also looking into parts of L.A. - Santa Monica. I've never been a huge fan of L.A. but there are some appealing parts.
