honestly it will be very difficult to find a place in your price range within a close distance to apple/the silicon valley, the again consider the fact that he may be earning pretty good money. he would have to have a long commute if you want to find a place in that price range.

That isn't the OP's price range, as far as I can tell. They're just saying that in Ohio, $300K would get you something very nice... but they realize the Bay Area is much more expensive, and are preparing for the inevitable sticker shock.

If hubby is working for Apple (and it was a position worth relocating for), I assume his income will be enough to afford the basic COL here. I'd recommend looking in Sunnyvale and west/central Mountain View, maybe even Campbell... these are nice family-friendly suburbs, with lower housing costs than nearby towns like Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Altos, etc. I'm not sure about the schools, but that info can be easily found online.
