What happened to all those income taxes?
It's the result of Texas smart economic policy : free-market policies. Nothing mysterious

I sure wish threads like this didn't end up spiraling into a Texas vs CA fight. I actually enjoyed the thread right up until page 5, and then things started getting ugly. I'm sure a big part of it is political. I'm just glad my wife and I don't let politics get in the way of our living decisions (I gave up years ago on talking to anyone in the Bay Area about politics....I think it's pretty much impossible to have a meaningful discussion). We plan on visiting Austin in the spring and if we like the area, plan on moving there and probably renting out our house in Daly City (need to talk to our accountant about the ramifications of renting vs selling). The COL is clearly better there, and for people like me and my wife (mid 50s), we would probably only be working another 7-8 years (most of our wealth has already been made), so the COL is very relevant as we will be bringing in income we earned in CA.

Unfortunately, I had a similar experience on the Austin board. There were a bunch of nice people and then a couple of bad apples that had to get into the CA bashing (uncalled for) and the thread got locked when the fighting started. I will say, I do like the moderator on this board much better (simply doesn't seem to be into the censoring unless things really cross the line).
