Yes, of course. But the OP said he found July in Oakland to be too cold for his taste. So I'm thinking that winters might be too cold, as well.

Doubt it. I lived in SF for 4 years and found the summers too cold because I really missed shorts/t-shirts weather. It became depressing going year after year without that, and I yearned for tropical vacations.


Winters, on the other hand are quite mild across the Bay Area. From maybe 40 at night on the peninsula to freezing a few nights per year in the tri-valley (where I live now), I find it mild year-round and completely comfortable (you can wear a coat and be fine anytime). Having traveled to the Midwest and East Coast in the winter, I'll never complain about it being too cold here that time of the year.

Exactly this. Cold winter is fine but it is depressing not being able to go lightly in summers. I am originally from the central part of Ukraine which has DC-like weather, however with -30F dry winters with snow and ice. But summers were long and hot - about 90-95F with warm evenings. I really miss this kind of weather here in Prague. Well, the summers at least!
