This is kind of a random question, but what nice downtown areas in the Bay have a bunch of tall old growth trees? My wife loves big trees and wants find a place to live with many of them. Like Sacramento would be a great example, though we'd prefer something closer to the Bay.

It's the residential neighborhoods that have the old-growth tree canopy. (Wouldn't you rather have that amenity where your house is, rather than having to drive downtown to enjoy it?) Berkeley, for one. Have you looked at the RE costs in the area? If doable, go for it!

Definitely take a walk around Alameda. Better to head into the residential neighborhoods off Park Street than stay along Park Street itself, but poke around on Google Street View for some ideas.

Menlo Park has a park downtown full of trees (not sure specifically about "old growth"), that's beautiful and charming. Some of the neighborhoods are shaded by big trees, as well. Worth a visit for an afternoon's outing.

It's tough, because so much of the Bay Area, and California in general is a concrete jungle. With most of the trees being in city parks and regional/state/national park land. Sacramento has trees more in specific neighborhoods, not really the downtown. You have to look more into the neighborhoods for the treelined street thing. It's not like back east.

Tough? Concrete? Um...the beautiful parks are what help make some of the BA neighborhoods so pretty & expensive to live....AND why can’t you count old growth trees on ppl’s properties or in national parks? Like all the neighborhoods around downtown Mill Valley AND there is Mt Tam & Muir Woods super close to all the neighborhoods...so...IMO it’s not tough or a concrete jungle. I miss L.A.s beaches & weather....but this area is super beautiful & charming. Sacramento isn’t as green or pretty IMO.

AND Palo Alto also has beautiful tree lined streets downtown & many tree lined neighborhoods with old growth trees on large lots in neighborhoods in the Green Gables area. Before the pandemic...we were spending a couple of days a month in the area because of my fiancé’s work. edit: so I have gotten to know it almost as much as Mill Valley.
