I was raised in Pittsburgh PA, so you'd think I'd be used to badly marked roads... but our bridge and fastrak lanes are screwy.

I went over the Hayward Bridge Sunday and I was in clearly in a Fastrak lane -- that sent me to a cash/fastrak lane. It doesn't make sense ... and I had a guy pacing me on the left, so I couldn't get over...

It doesn't help that people are driving so distracted nowadays...

LOL... I see that crap EVERY day, and it drives me nuts!! I have a FasTrak, and drive over the bridge 5x/week (minimum), so I know which lane to be in at all times - but soooo many people get confused, or try to use the FT lane until the very last minute. Anyway, I love when the white truck starts to back up... at that point, it's smarter just to cruise through & pay the ticket later (which they'll usually waive if you play dumb).

I don't no how they get away with it... but I often see a line of cars stopped in the carpool lane waiting until the lane is open...

Stupid me... I got a photo ticket for driving through on a carpool lane taking my neighbors to the airport 2 minutes before the start of carpool commute...

the bay bridge toll area sucks if you don't have fastrak. it can be very difficult to quickly move over to a lane or identify whats open.

Why not just get a fast trak pass? How hard is that to understand? These idiots are risking accidents for a $29 fasttrak violation?

They may be from out of the area visiting San Francisco. If you're a local, use the bridges frequently, and don't have FasTrak, you've got to be totally oblivious. You can even get FasTrak transponders at Costco now, and if you register it with your American Express you get a sign-up bonus.

I had a friend who's husband wouldn't let her get a FasTrak because then "they" would be able to track her.

It must have been enough of a problem, because I remember getting a mylar bag from FasTrak to put my transponder into when I wasn't using it, so "they" couldn't track me.

But it's been a long time since I wore a tin foil hat to stop the brain reading waves.....

Having seen so many motorists in having trouble from being in the wrong lane it makes me think the the traffic engineers didn't do their homework...

We never had this problem to this extent until the new toll plaza was completed...

Anyone as someone who can go a whole year without crossing over to SF... question why we need transponders... isn't it registered to a vehicle? If that's the case I would need a shoebox full of transponders

Well yeah, but the transponders are free. You just load them up with money for fares.
