Map of what I'm referring to here.

These are questions that should have been easily answered by the city's Parks & Rec dept however I was unable to reach them for the last few days and then this morning they left me a vm stating that as of today at 12 they're closed until next year.

My primary question is the actual boundaries of the off leash dog beach. What I believe is considered to be Pacifica Esplanade Beach is separated into three different sections by rocks. My understanding is that only the northernmost section (labeled 1 on my map) is the dog beach, is that accurate?

My secondary question is regarding safety. I've watched some videos about the sneaker waves, I'm also aware that there are sometimes issues with e.coli and that the city also will issue warning notices when these come up so people know to stay away. I'm considering moving to the area primarily so that I can off leash my dogs at the beach at least twice per day. Are there any other safety concerns to be aware about? Also, about how often should I expect to not be able to take them there due to safety hazards or closures?

Lastly, would I be correct in assuming the the beach is pitch black after dark and taking the dogs out after then (with lighted collars, headlamp, etc) is out of the question?

TIA!

I used to live near there, but we don't have dogs. I think the best thing to do, would be to take your dog there, while other dogs are being walked, & ask those people. I don't think there is too much of a worry about the sneaker waves, unless the weather is really wild, then do not go near the shoreline. Stay on the rock/road side. You can take the dog out at night, if you want, I don't think it is banned, but as always be aware. Pacifica is a great little town.
