Whoa! Anyone else feel the quake we just had? News report said it was a 4.0, centered near Alamo in the East Bay. I'm in SF, and we felt a VERY sharp but quick jolt. My roommate & I were sitting on the couch, and it literally felt like someone pushed our house sideways. My other roommate ran out of the bathroom with the funniest look on his face - he's not from here, LOL. Anyway, just checking to see everyone is alright... those smaller ones are kinda fun, huh?

Oh, and to answer that "aren't you afraid of earthquakes?" question we always get, this is how we deal with it... ask everyone if they felt it, talk about it for a minute, and watch the news to see if any damage occurred. Unless it's a BIG one, that's about all there is to them.

I felt the same thing as you did, it was like someone shoved the apartment building and then it rocked back into place. It was a potent but short one, I take it it was on the Calaveras Fault?

Neither -- an unnamed fault near Alamo. It was a 4.1 and it was long enough here in Oakland for me to figure out it WASN'T a truck going too fast over the speed bump right in front of my house; realize that it wasn't STOPPING, and for me to get up and get into a doorway, while my keyboard drawer rocked in and out a little. The two wine vinegar bottles on my fridge rattled a little longer as the house continued to shake just a little. The whole thing took almost a minute.

I felt is here in Lafayette - my first one! I actually thought it was my kids jumping around in their bedrooms shaking the house, until I opened my bedroom door to see their horrified faces in the hallway. My boyfriend was just getting out of the shower at the time and didn't notice a thing. We only felt it for a few seconds.

We felt it here in Millbrae. Just one "wave" of shaking. It happened so quickly and was over so fast that my cat only had this slightly alarmed look on his face for a minute or so and didn't even get off of his sleeping perch!
