EllenOlenska,

Kensington is a really nice area to live in....It borders Berkeley and El Cerrito, there isn't
a lot to do there though...

They do have a small, small library and some small shops, but it terms of things to do most
people go to Berkeley or SF or Oakland.....

Excellent Schools there...., excellent views of SF

The scenery is nice. I agree with everything naomisday had to say about the place. The schools are really nice.

Agree with all of the above. It is convenient to Berkeley/El Cerrito Albany....but you must drive your car.

Agree with everyone else. Nothing to do in Kensington, crappy public transit, but as long as you drive it's close enough to the freeway and a bart station. You have a quick easy non-freeway route into Berkeley from Kensington as well, which is useful during heavy transit times. It's safe and quiet, there's a lovely UC Regents Botanical Gardens, a small farmers market, and a great public elementary school (the junior high and high school are in neighboring El Cerrito, so not the best, but could be worse).

Kensington is pretty much an extension of the Berkeley hills. It's prestigious. You get commanding views of the Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. But it's fairly remote in feel, definitely not as happening as Berkeley. It's easy to get there though, Arlington Blvd turns into Shattuck and goes into downtown Berk.

If you can afford it, choose it. Echo all earlier comments.

Yes, its close enough to Berkeley for convenience.

And worth the price.

Really a small town feel. Expensive and pretty close to Berkeley. I love the homes in the town. You do need a car though--it has very limited transit service, although if you get down to San Pablo Ave., you have BART or AC Transit. It's certainly a "bedroom" community, but very nice if you can afford it.

There used to be a good pub there. Not sure of it's current status.
