I'm relocating with my company to San Mateo in July with my two dogs (1 german shepherd and 1 belgium shepherd). I'm looking for an area to live that has trails/parks, but is also in an area near a nice downtown with some nightlife as I am 25 and single. I don't mind driving up to 30 minutes to commute to work. Any ideas??

San Mateo and the surrounding area have some very nice trails. Here is a link to my favorite trail website San Francisco Bay Trail Hiking - Hikes - enter in the city of San Mateo and LOTS of hiking areas will pop up .

Rent a smaller house in the area South of 92 and West of El Camino. Good access to both downtown SM and the El Camino commercial strip while being close to the hills. More likely to find a dog friendly landlord with house rentals than with high density rentals.

Also check out Belmont hills ... good for the dogs and within a few minutes drive to downtown San Carlos or San Mateo.

San Carlos has a true downtown, Belmont has nice trails Water Dog park is good and close to SF. Burlingame has a great downtown too. And San Mateo has Sawyer Trail at Crystal Springs which is just a beautiful paved trail about 13 miles long I think and close to downtown. San Mateo has some bars and nice restaurants as does Belmont and San Carlos. You probably just need to take a look for yourself to determine what area you like.
