Hello, I am planning to move from the east bay to the city.

I cant stand the cold. I am originally from a warmer state and find the east bay better for warmth.

However I need to move to the city.

Can anyone tell me some of the warmer micro climates in the city?

thanks

Well, the Bayview is the warmest but it's also not the best neighborhood by a far shot..

There's South of Market (SoMa), which has less fog.. however as any regular goer to the Candlestick will tell you, it's still not exactly warm, and it's expensive too.

Potrero Hill might be what you're looking for.

Yes i would say The Mission and Protrero Hill are warm. Bayview isn't as safe as those other 2.

Ditto Potrero. I lived there for 12 years before moving to the East Bay. It's the last place to be hit by fog.

You want to be in whats known as the banana belt: Misson/Noe Valley/Potrero Hill...but I find downtown/Soma to be the warmest.

I lived in Noe. While sunnier and slightly "warmer" (and by warmer I mean less bone chilling wind and fog which affects the temp even if it registers the same) than other parts of SF, it was still cold.

I moved from LA to SF in January....not advisable. And Im sure you know SF is cold in the summer too.

I'd recommend you stay on the sunny side of the bay and commute. I too am from a warmer state (Texas Gulf Coast) and even after nearly 30 years could never get used to the type of cold SF has to offer. By the thermometer it's not cold but it's a chill you can't seem to escape. I lived in the city for a year because it was more convenient but I quite honestly got tired of being cold all the time and moved to the East Bay.

I've lived in incredibly cold places where winters tend to be 60 degrees colder than your freezer but no place has chilled me quite like SF. Even when you crank the heat up, you can still feel it. It's hard to explain. Some people like it but I don't.

The Mission is usually pretty warm. Avoid Sunset and Richmond like the plague if you fear the cold though!

After moving to SF I think TX has the best weather! Only 3 months of high heat and one month of cold and its gorgeous rest of the year. SF is more like 3 days of good weather and ironically enough SF is yet to learn the simple technology called centralized heating. Given the pathetic weather its not surprising that SF is the suicide capital of the world...
