I moved out here from out of state 6 months ago, first job out of college. I just thought I'd point out an interesting observation, fake louis vuitton. WHAT IN THE WORLD. Why are people so obsessed with the LV brand here? I realize LV's prestige. But everywhere I go!! I go to the Costco on Saturday, clearly fake LV bags. I go to work, every single Asian lady has a fake LV bag. I go to the mall, LV bags.

It's not a status symbol anymore! Even when I walk past the LV store in a mall, I just think, "why spend the money to get a real one, when this place is overrun by fake LV products?" It's almost hilarious how people think they are distinguishing themselves with the $60 Union Square fake product that they feel so special pretending it's a status symbol. LOL

There are $50 fakes that you clearly can tell and the $300 fakes are really hard to tell unless you observe up close. OP is correct, just buy the fake LV bags for 1/10 the price and save then rest.

Really? I have never noticed, probably because I don't pay attention to that stuff, and I almost never go to the mall. The less you go shopping, the less you care. You become blissfully ignorant of what are considered to be "status" items and what aren't. It's a happier place to be, I'll tell 'ya.

Wanted to ask the same question. I know several "Asian lady" friends who have LV bags and they are real. If you like the bag and can afford it, there is nothing wrong to support the original design. An entry level LV bag costs around 2000$. Many people here can afford it if they only have one or two bags, and despite of what OP thinks they don't consider it as a status symbol. In the bay area compared to the housing and rent, a 2000$ bag that you can use for years says nothing about the so called "status symbol". They just like the bag.

Well said. My idea of a status item would be a paid off house and an early retirement

$2,000+ for a friggin' bag is definitely a status symbol.

Just like guys in Ferraris, it isn't just because they dig the car.

That sounds a lot like Dave Ramsey.
