I am not sure if this is the right place or not to post...
Does anyone drive from the Palo Alto area to around Hollister area?
Looking at a house and it says the commute is about 1 hour but I am wondering what traffic is really like headed that way...
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hollister to Palo Alto during commute hours? 2 - 2.5 hours would be my guess

Your best bet is to just use Google Maps. It will give you a pretty good idea of the time it'll take to do the drive. It all depends on what time you go. One hour is about right, assuming no traffic.

if you leave Palo Alto after 6:30pm it will be 1.5 hours minimum, part of the road is a very difficult mountain road. the inland area just to get out of SV is unpredictable traffic-wise.

boulder creek is much closer if you are looking for more affordable, as well as fremont and Newark.

Seems like Morgan Hill could be a great place to consider, pretty close to Hollister.

You should just live in Hollister. You will avoid the lengthy commute and it will be better for the environment to not burn so much fuel everyday.

Get a pure electric and you can get the white stickers, 2016 will be the end of the green stickers so your commute will be easy and fast! I currently have a Volt (green stickers) and have to go the SJC quite often in rush hour, no problems except a little slow down in Morgan Hill where they do not have the carpool lane. They are in the process of extending the carpool lane, I expect it coming all the way to hwy 25 in the next year as all the metering lights were installed in Gilroy this year.

Morgan Hill is fantastic place to live, but quite expensive.

500K gets you a starter condo/town house in Morgan Hill, but it gets you a starter stand alone house in Hollister.

Good luck!
