I don't see that this addresses the OP's topic of safety. Both look safe to me. 95148 looks like an extension of Fremont, whereas 95125 looks like White suburbia with a few colorful neighbors, but Fremont is plenty safe. I don't see why 95148 wouldn't be, unless you have some relevant information to share.

Granted I left SJ and loooong time ago....but 95148 sits between Alum Rock and Evergreen....technically the east side. The OP can peruse the demographics and the SJPD crime stats and make their own assessments. The East side was sketchy when I was growing up, with the exception of the farms which have all been replaced with housing, most of which was built in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Cold water Dr in 95148 is right on the north border side of zip code 95148.
In general 95148 is part of Evergreen, but this border area does not fall into the jurisdiction of the Evergreen Elementary school district which is a good school district in San Jose for the most part.
I would consider this area being more on the East side of San Jose then Evergreen. The closer you are to White road and Mt Pleasant High School, the more traffic and possible exposure to vandalism and crime. You will be better off going further east up towards the hills or further south toward the direction of Tully Road.
