Portions:
The weather system that brought snowfall to Santa Fe on Monday will slowly leave during the day on Tuesday, a National Weather Service forecaster in Albuquerque predicted.

The agency expected 2 to 3 inches of wet snow by Monday night, with tapering rain through noon Tuesday.

Forecaster Kerry Jones said nearby mountains could get a foot of new snow.

By 3:30 p.m. Monday, downtown Santa Fe had received a steady wet snowfall that initially failed to accumulate on paved areas.

While temperatures were expected to drop to about 30 degrees overnight, they should rise to the mid-40s by Tuesday and make a midweek rebound of 60 degrees or so by Wednesday.

"The average date of the last spring freeze is around tax day in mid-April,"

The weekly weather report issued by the city of Santa Fe for the week that began April 1 showed Santa Fe Canyon reservoirs were filled 41 percent of capacity, down from 44 percent a year earlier.
