I'm looking for a place that makes a great unseasoned ribeye steak and serves good dinner rolls. Not into Ruth's Chris $60 price tag or anything "foo-foo fancy" but in search of something more reasonable in the $20-$25 range. Also not into chains like Outback etc, looking for more of a local's steakhouse.

It's a chain, but have you tried the Golden Corral on Cortez Rd in west Bradenton? Their evening buffet menu offers grilled steak (usually sirloin), along with a large selection of salad, veggies and dinner roles & breads of all kinds. Haven't been there myself for awhile but some neighbors go to GC all the time.

I certainly mean no offense Sunshine Rules but in a city with such good eating, and on a messaqge board loaded with good eating spots, surely we can do better than a Golden Corral. That's kind of like saying Taco Bell makes a good burrito.

Ha ha, Golden Corral. There are a lot of great steak houses around all over the place. I'm not in the Sarasota area, but I'm sure there are a lot of ones that are not Ruth Chris or Outback, although for steak - I like both. I would google Flemmings, Capital Grille and Mortons (those are Ruth Chris like), and Lone Star, Stoney River, Silver Mining Company, The Great Steak, The Prime Rib. There are several others but they are floating around in the hazy part of my mind at the moment.

flemings had the best steak that we have had in the year and a half of being down here. in my opinion they surpassed ruth chris.

Ok, Ok. I knew I would get some heat about my comment. Yes, I know there are other places to get good steaks around Sarasota, but he was commenting on the
prices too. Most of the restaurants with good steaks aren't going to be significantly less expensive than Ruth Chris. I was trying to come up with a reasonably priced alternative.
When we want a great steak, I have the hubby fire up the grill.

Alright then now we're in agreement
Unless I am somewhere like Hyde Park I wont order a steak usually because I am really content with a thick cut Rib Eye that I do on the grill at home.
And man the wine is so much cheaper too!

Unless I am somewhere like Hyde Park I wont order a steak usually because I am really content with a thick cut Rib Eye that I do on the grill at home.
