Must have been a LONG time since you've been to Pittsburgh, it's no longer a steel city, mostly now it's tech and medical. I hail from the Burg and it's actually a very clean place now.

Eric Ernst: Unemployment drops, but that's no reason to celebrate | HeraldTribune.com

These supposed lower unemployment numbers are a 'spin job' by politicians. And in an election year - there will be lots of 'spin' on the economic numbers.

For example - the unemployment numbers don't take into account those that have simply given up looking for work. These people that gave up are a larger amount than usual. So taken that into account - the unemployment numbers really aren't improving.

Also prices are rising faster than wages. So it's hard for people to get ahead.

Very True! Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. It is no longer the city of dirt and grim. It is clean, and up-beat! Fun place to visit! It is still and always will be the city of bridges. Love Mt. Washington!

Homes prices in most of the US are still going down. In much of FL, especially SW FL they are stabilizing or increasing. FL was hit worst than most of the US by the downturn but is now recovering faster than just about anywhere else. Even population growth in Florida has returned. Look for a good 2012 in SW FL.

Corelogic reported last week that the shadow inventory of homes delinquent on mortgages /in the process of foreclosure in SW Florida is now shrinking. As of Oct 2011 we are now at a 5 month supply of shadow inventory vs a 7 month supply as of Oct 2010. A healthy housing market would be considered with a 1 month supply of shadow inventory. Still a way to go but the numbers are now heading in the right direction.

When we were negotiating on the home we bought our agent told us we needed to make up our mind because someone else was getting ready to put a bid in.

I thought yeah right, whatever.

Today that person knocked on the door to tell me we were stinkers because she wanted our house & didn't get a bid in fast enough etc etc. She said they went with their second choice.

Kind of nice to know after the fact that our agent was telling the truth, not pressuring us like I originally thought.

We were told the exact same thing and never have confirmed if it was true or not but we are glad we bought it. It was one year ago that we put in our offer, closed last January and moved in June.

Life is good!
