The official story is that they are looking for a suspect. I notice it quite a bit here in Cape Coral as well. Behind my shop there is a large (40-50 acre) vacant parcel. Occassionally I'll be there working late, and a chopper will circle that field for 40 minutes or more. Leave, then come back and circle some more. A few weeks back, they were doing this on a Sunday morning. From about 6:30 am to 8:00 am. never heard what that was all about.

Is it mosquito control? They usually fly planes over later in the evening and spray. Those planes fly in a back and forth manner. I don't think they use helicopters though.

Mosquito control does use helicopters, but this sounds like police.

A friend of mine in WNY used to spray their fields with both a plane and a helicopter. So they do use both.

If it's spraying for mosquitos I don't see why they'd be circling the same area for 20-30 minutes at a time. Sometimes even coming back again.

When they spray for mosquitoes they fly back and forth over the same area. Usually several times. I often hear them at night, especially when it's rainy season. I'm not saying that's what was going on, just a guess.

Not near as annoying as having a bunch of mosquitos flying around your head everytime you go out.
Hope fully that is what they are doing and not looking for the bigger pests in your area.

I'd put my bet on the police looking for suspects. Usually, you can see the red/blue lights. Happens over downtown all the time.
