I'm posting this a day earlier than I usually do because tonight is the Main Street Live event in downtown Bradenton & along the Riverwalk Park. Live music, vendors, crafts & food. Free. 5 pm - 10 pm.

Also tonight is the Sarasota Orchestra presentation of folk songs. Starts at 5:30 pm at Holley Hall at the Symphony Center, check their website for ticket info.

Friday night is Sarasota' Friday Fest held on the grounds of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, live music, starts at 5 pm. Bring blankets or lawn chairs. Free.

Also Friday night is the Towles Court Art Walk in downtown Sarasota, 6 - 10 pm, free.

Running all weekend at the Players Theatre at 7:30 pm is their production of Steel Magnolias. Contact the theater for ticket info.

Saturday morning is the weekly farmers market in downtown Sarasota, 7 am - 1 pm.

Saturday 9 am to 2 pm is the 19th annual Manatee County Children's Summit at the convention center in Palmetto. Dozens of local child and family organizations will have booths, do presentations on topics such as education, safety, bully prevention, healthy eating for children.

Maybe not so healthy eating but lots of fun is the Annual BBQ Cook Off competition at Lakewood Ranch's Main Street, starts at 6 pm, with local restaurants competing for bragging rights.
Ymmm.

First, I just want to say that I appreciate that you post these events here. Thanks! Second, there was an article in the paper yesterday (or the day before) stating that the "park anywhere you can" approach for events held at Lakewood Ranch Main Street has ended and, apparently, they will be enforcing the tow away zones so don't assume, if you see someone parking on grass, sidewalks, plant beds, or whatever else you might see, that you won't get towed. Have fun!

I read that article. What poor poor planning by main street. Hmmm 5,000 people coming to an event where there is parking for 500. I know there is a sad excuse for a trolley but even that can't cope with the level craziness there on some nights.
