We just moved to Sarasota last week. Any recommendations for New Year's Eve? We are not wild partiers and we drink in moderation.

Downtown Sarasota street party. Wait, what is your definition of "wild"? In the past we have gone early and left long before mid night.
This year like the past few will be the two of us quietly alone.

Have fun

New Year's Eve In Downtown Sarasota Florida

We have gone a few times. I prefer a quiet night at home with my wife. And although I certainly know how to, I don't drink. We usually went early and left before the crowds.

Is it just a bunch of people wandering around? Is there something that happens at midnight? Are there bands or any type of entertainment?

The Sarasota New Year's event starts in the afternoon with more family friendly activities, carnival rides, food, etc. After dark it becomes more of an large street party geared towards adults with various live bands, downtown bars selling drinks. At midnight the pineapple drops and I think there's also fireworks on the bay at Marina Jack's this year.

I read somewhere that there's a new party event this year at the sarasota Municipal Auditorium that is supposed to offer live music, dancing, food and drinks. Various Sarasota restaurants offers their own New Year's Eve celebrations for a set fee, as does the Ritz-Carlton hotel. Downtown Bradenton is also doing a big street party on New Year's Eve.

If you are not partiers why is New Year's Eve anything special? It's just amateur night out.
