LOL! I've decided it's all a matter of perspective depending on where people came from and what is the norm in the summer down here. Yes, I'm one of those snowbirds currently contributing to this, but my adult life has been spent in the NoVa suburbs of DC and dealing with metro DC traffic. This is a piece of cake compared to that. However my guess is compared to many other areas people have come from, especially in the Midwest (minus the Chicago suburbs) this must look horrible. BTW, I'm not complaing.

Have relatives in Rockville (born/raised in Detroit & spent a few years in NYC as well) & have played in traffic in your area ~ I think what gets us so infuriated here in Sarasota is that ~ we are not a metro area like DC or NYC or LA & our tourism factor has more than doubled in the past three years ~ the roads here were not built to handle this kind of volume ~ Soon I75 is going to mimic I95 in the greater Ft. Lauderdale style ~ however, on Anna Maria, Longboat, Lido & Siesta ~ not much road available to expand upon to keep up with the traffic demands.

If you build it they will come is ringing true in Sarasota county & coming you are ~ maybe a couple more traffic circles could add interest to the scenic routes....not!

I've lived in mostly in suburban areas of NY, NJ as as well as lived a number of years in three boroughs of NYC. I know what traffic and congestion are like, but, that's not what one gets used or expects when moving to areas like Sarasota, not even close, so when the traffic gets a bit more out of control than normal also as with the temps dropping, we sort of get a little cranky about it. Not life changing, frustrated, just cranky, maybe want to slap a few people, but, nothing a day at the beach can't fix. Oh wait, it's too cold for that. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

This is my first time going through the "busy" season (Venice/North POrt area) and while there is more traffic then Oct/Nov, I find that it isn't as bad as I expected. Having grown up in Atlantic City and Brigantine and still maintain a home in Sea Isle City I am very familiar with the seasonal crush.

Worst traffic we've seen in years around Sarasota.
