My son wants to get a commercial (Class B) license. Roadmaster offers a 3-day course for $900.00 with no guarantees, which is more than he can pay - so he wants to try studying online thru one of the online courses recommended for the test, Driving Test - Pass the DMV Test Guaranteed, Practice Driving Tests. Is that the best way to go? Since he doesn't have access to a vehicle in order to take the driving test once he passes the written test, is it possible to rent a commercial vehicle (weighing less than 2601 lbs) to take the actual road test? Which vehicle rental company is likely to have this type of vehicle? Any info from truckers out there is much appreciated!

Question Depending Upon His Age???

Look into driving a school bus...the big buses require a "B" license with a P endorsement...they usually train you for free...and supply the vehicle needed for the motor vehicle test...ya got noth'in to lose...

Is he in college? Some colleges will also train you to drive their buses or shuttles so you can get the experience. Also, are their any trucking companies around. When I was in high school I learned to drive 16 wheelers, because I got a job washing them at nights and weekends around their yard which was pretty big. I got so I could manuever them anywhere through tie turns, parking, backing them up, etc.... never had any accidents or damaged anything either. Those were the toughest driving conditions - much harder than being out on the open road. Some businesses that have shuttle service will help to train you in that if you show any interest in making it a career.
