Before getting into this weekends events around town, I would like to suggest marking your calendars for next Saturday, July 19th, as it is Snooty the Manatee's 66th birthday and the city of Bradenton and the museum throw Snooty a big birthday bash each year to celebrate. This year's event will include 1/2 off admission as well as a free festival outside that will include food trucks, games, live performances and lots of family fun.


Friday

Friday Night Free Music -- Venice Centennial Park at the gazebo, 7 - 9 pm, bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.



Friday & Saturday

Sarasota Improv Festival -- performers from all over the U.S. FL Studio Theatre on Palm Ave in Sarasota. Passes are $59. For more info call 366-9017 or go to Florida Studio Theatre

Darrell Hammond performs at McCurdy's Comedy Theatre in Sarasota, 7 & 9:30 pm performances, tickets $45. Call 925-3869. Darrell spent 14 years on Saturday Night Live and is best known for his Bill Clinton and Sean Connery impersonations.



Saturday

Boots vs Badges Blood Drive -- at the Westfield Southgate Mall, 9 am - 2 pm. Local firefighters vs local law enforcement officers compete to see who can collect the most for the local blood bank. Donate for your "team." Event will include a mini SWAT course for the kids and fire trucks.

Bradenton Marauders baseball team's "Go Fly a Kite" night -- first 500 fans get a free Marauders kite and are invited to fly them on the field after the game. Adults $8/person. It's also Bark in the Park night, pet owners can pay an additional $2 for a bark badge for their dog, as well as participate in the Yappy Hour drink specials. Game starts at 6:30, McKechnie Field in Bradenton.

Dog Days of Summer Adoption Event at Tommy Bahama store on St. Armands Circle. Shelter pets up for adoption and 10% of the day's sales go to the Humane Society of Sarasota.

Michael's on East Wine Celler Tasting -- event for the Gulf Coast Connoisseur Club members. First time attendees can pay a $10 fee, which includes club membership. 2 - 4 pm, call 955-2675 for information.

Longboat Key Turtle Walk -- search for turtle nests & hatching turtles, approximately a 2 mile walk. Hosted by the Manatee Sarasota Sierra Club. $5 donation. Call 752-3200 for details and meet up location.


Saturday & Sunday

Siesta Key Volleyball Classic -- starts at 8:30 am, free admission for spectators.


Sunday

Coquina Beach Market -- 10 am to 4 pm on Coquina Beach, Anna Maria Island. Fresh produce, arts & crafts, collectibles and lots of other vendors.
