Sarasota is a gem and everything but it is clearly over populated now and my belief is the area will be 5 times the size in 5 years of so. So plan ahead if you think the place is a cool oasis now its going to be built up literally too much and unless they build a mono rail or some sort of extra transit system for unheard of traffic, forget about it.

One good thing about Sota is all the millionaires and billionaires who are probably responsible for keeping the city clean. Downtown Sota is clean around all the trillion dollar condos and anywhere the wealthy live its clean.

Underneath all the prettiness the place is just getting trashed though. In particular the water supply. Underneath Florida land is a bunch of underwater streams and reseviors just sitting there sucking up all the fertilizer from the golf course and the mansions lawns. And there are those bald guys whos jobs are to spray the chemicals into all the ponds to prevent the natural algae and natural and invasive weeds and plants from forming. They say the chemicals are not toxic to humans in any way. Then there is the controversial Red Tide question: Do you think humans are at all responsible for this red tide?

The hardest part of Sota to like are the brand of people. Its such a weird mixture of people. And like it or not, all the old people can be a superior downer for any younger people. I mean it is a weird mix. You have art in Sota but its always a downer because the audience always includes retirees, and many of the retirees did not move here to appreciate art. They are just sort of there sucking the life out of the art scene, like rabid leeches they just draw off of it, sucking the life out of the scene. Then oh. Its such a small town and people read this board and cant handle any negative commentary about the town they love, so a billionaire decides to secretly capitalize on it and throw millions of dollars at the town for making it young and fun.

You have a lot of church goers. And lots of churches. Mostly Christian. And if you are used to churches up north the ones in Sota are going to be different perhaps. Good people too but it does get narrow compared to older churches up north. You know Florida churches are built with hurricanes in mind, like the thing will blow away one day and after the disaster they will just build another one with the same building materials.

50 years ago Florida was much different. Today we have New Florida. But Old Florida was seriously hick country. With the KKK and everything. Old Florida was different.

50 years ago there was 100 times more wild life and fish and everything. Probably more.

The Everglades was practically ruined. It still functions today but humans altered the glades so much in order to build housing. Naples was an unihabitable swamp. Same thing with Miami. The Everglades was sucked dry in order to accommodate these people.

Then you have the penisular shape of the state surrounded by two very different bodies of water: the gulf and the atlantic. It makes for a weird place.

Personally I like the east coast of Florida better.

People who get the most from Florida are doing water sports. The fishing in Florida is some of the best. Boating is one of the best ways to experience Florida.

The vast majority of people in Florida did not move there to be outside enjoying it.
