This is crazy. I wish these developers would build some residential downtown and the riverfront. I wonder what chain will come. Perhaps a Ritz-carlton.

A 645-room, $250 million hotel is being proposed in Savannah.

The Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission submitted a Development of Regional Impact application for the project at 1147 E. President St. in Savannah. In addition to the 645 rooms, it would offer 685 parking spaces and would require site improvements, according to the project description in the initial DRI form.

Looking at a map it seems this hotel will be in the same area that Costco was once proposed. It seems the improvements to President Street are already paying off.

That is a really weird location for a hotel -- outside the historic district and without riverfront access. Are you sure this isn't being proposed for the Savannah River Landing site?

It might be, when I typed in the address on Google map it had the site being on the southside of President Street, but you're probably right in that it will be at the old Savannah River Landing site, that would make more sense. If it is at the Savannah River Landing site, could Savannah potentially see a new tallest? According to the article the hotel is suppose to be open by 2019.

I couldn't read past the paywall. At any rate, a hotel on the SW corner of President Street and Truman Parkway makes ZERO sense because it has absolutely no connection whatsoever to the Historict District, pedestrian or otherwise. Nobody would be that dumb.

You're right, perhaps the site is closer to the Marriott. If this is proposed at the Savannah River Landing site, I want other developers to come on board and get some residential and retail going at that site.

I looked at the property identification number listed on the DRI request. It is on the Southside of President behind the old wooden building that burned down recently. It is the old Atlas Recycling facility. It doesn't make any sense unless there is some other development planned next to it behind the housing project.

I agree, the location is weird. There has to be some other developments planned for this area. I really want to see what this project will look like.

It is HDcompnaiesUS listed as the developer with a mailbox at the UPS store in Pooler and a South Carolina phone number. HD companies is a network of companies that includes a bunch of hotel brands and construction arm. It says HQ is in Savannah.

I have a feeling this may not get built. This company doesn't sound legit.
