I agree and many are blowing it off. On SSI, I certainly expect it to be no worse than Matthew which was a tempest in a teapot. The authorities only succeeded in making it worse than it had to be.

The authorities must side on the side of caution. Two zones in Pooler are now not in the mandatory evac zone, so I'm glad we decided to stay.

Brighten your day and look at the "10 day forecast". Soon there will be sunshine in our lives again! Just believe that this too will pass. It's only a blip.

But jeeeze. I'm spent already, and the frigging hurricane hasn't even hit Florida yet. Come on, already!

You'll feel better if you didn't watch all these fear mongers on the news. They stand on a beach and then tell you you can die in 12 feet of water. No fooling Dick Tracy. I'm not planning on doing that living 16 miles from the atlantic,

Do you really believe those reporters are actually standing there on the beach? Its all photoshopped, probably using footage from previous storms, with identifying information edited, of course! If it were so dangerous, WTH are they doing standing there talking about it?

100 % on. While I am in NYC and we are experiencing a storm ( snow, ice, Hurricane) they have a rain suit on and show they are standing in standing water. So, I step outside and say "WTF"!! That's a puddle! They proceed to tell/scare/drive news and advertisers to believe this is MAJOR! Com'on.

Major hurricanes, 4 and 5, have hit Georgia before. However we keep filling wetlands and building next to marshes. And build the only major building that could shelter everyone, the arena, in the lowest spot. Fooler keep on paving everything. Yall we got really lucky! Bill Dawers wrote up a great article on this. Well the surge that was promised by Matthew was finally delivered by Irma. What a mess.
Here's a video of my neighborhood on SSI; my neighbor, Buff Leavy, is narrating.

No telling when we can go home. At least the fridge and freezer are empty and we live in a raised cottage. But my garden!

and this was only a low-energy tropical storm when it hit us. Perhaps it's time Fooler and the rest of the county should re-think things, and get some development standards and so forth. Subdivisions should buffer the marsh and wetlands. For real, not just stuff on paper that isn't used. Stop filling wetlands, creating little ponds and thinking that'll fix it. Just sayin'. There are also opposing economic pressures. I get it. It's all about what the citizens here want to see in the long run. Maintaining complicated "drainage" is not free. Manage development standards and save money and property damages in the long run.
