My monitor goes to sleep after an hour or so, but the pc is always ON. What do you do?
Both. I tend to keep my main desktop box and two main fileservers on all the time, but the secondary desktops can be either turned on 24x7 or off at night depending on what I'm doing at the time. My wife's box is on all the time.

I shut the computer down and then unplug the power strip all the "wall warts" and chargers are plugged in to - it's pointless to allow that phantom load.

same here, takes too long to start-up in the morning for a quick e-mail check. Power is cheap where I am at so it doesn't hurt the wallet.

good point. i leave my pc on because i mostly just use it as a server for my laptop

also, i have heard that constantly shutting down your PC will shorten the life of your hard drive.

At home, I leave my MacMini and Macbook on, because after 3 hours, it goes on standby and goes to sleep. Only thing I really turn off is the monitor.

And, at work, I have a PC, and I leave that on as well, and the monitor shuts off after an hour of inactivity.
