* Childhood lead exposure among the U.S. population by 2015 was responsible for the loss of more than 824 million IQ points. That number equates to an average of 2.6 lost IQ points per U.S. adult.
* Estimated lead-linked deficits were greatest for individuals born between 1966 and 1970. This population experienced an average deficit of 5.9 IQ points per person.
If so many individuals had not had exposure to lead from motor vehicle exhaust, we might be living in a different society today, according to Dr. McFarland.
“We’d definitely be healthier, wealthier, and smarter,” he said.
I guess another example where yesterday's solutions became today's problems.
I think the poor quality foods we consume are beginning to have larger impact on brain development and health in general than just lead. There is ample evidence that negative impacts increase from the same level of nutrient deficiencies and exposure to toxic substances with each generation.

Good points.
Lead is just one of numerous metals that we are exposed to each day, then there is that amalgam used in dental clinics, and so on. We probably ingest and even breath more plastics than lead each day. Even organic foods, including acidic ones like lemon juice, tomato sauce, and juice, orange juice, and so on, are contained in plastic.
Yes, there have been some studies in the relation between low food quality and IQ, although I'm not sure that a population average has been computed for the US. There's probably a feedback loop at work as well.
Leaded gas has a higher octane rating than unleaded gas. Octane rating is a measurement of a fuel’s antiknock properties. The higher the octane rating, the greater the resistance to combustion without igniting or detonating. Leaded fuel has a high octane rating. Therefore, it can burn at higher temperatures inside of an engine’s combustion chamber.
While some airplanes still use leaded fuel, unleaded fuel is far more common. Almost all commercial airliners, for instance, now use unleaded fuel. Many small airplanes also run on unleaded fuel.

How about the fact that we've dumbed down our education and when these tests are given many kids have no idea what they have to do as they don't know how to take tests and can't think.
If anyone should be dumb it should be boomers exposed to lead pipes, lead paint ect.... More excuses as put the blame elsewhere than on our educational system.
I don't think those research figures are accurate or mean much of anything. It is really impossible to chart things like that because there are so many variables. IQ can't really be tracked over generations anyway, and even if it could, it's not a very good way to measure cognitive decline in any case.
