Hi there

I was just looking into visiting the Tacoma glass museum on a weekend and checked the train fares on Amtrak which seem quite expensive to me for such a short distance. The sounder train appears to be much cheaper but is not available on a weekend. Are there any other reasonably prized ways of getting to and from Tacoma on a weekend?

A zipcar for the day is approximately the same price as 2 return tickets and gives you much more flexibility but ideally I'd prefer not to spend as much, I also quite like trains, it's nice watching the scenery go by from your window ;-)

mhh, just saw there is a Metro bus but it doesn't run on the weekend either. The Greyhounds run very early in the morning or in the afternoon, nothing mid-morning. What is it? Does Tacoma not want any Seattleites to spend their weekend in Tacoma or is it the Seattleites who would not want to go anywhere near Tacoma on a weekend?

A reasonably priced, but not especially quick way to Tacoma via public transit on weekends:
Central Link Light Rail to Sea-Tac Airport
Pierce Transit/Sound Transit Route 574 bus from Sea-Tac to Tacoma Dome station
Tacoma streetcar from Tacoma Dome station to the glass museum ( that's a quick ride.)

594 is an express bus from downtown
Seattle to Tacoma. It runs weekends 5am to 10pm the buses are the nice commuter ones more comfortable seats and places for backpacks it will drop u off at the Tacoma Dome station . Then you can catch link light rail at the station to downtown and the museum distric. Basicly its just one express bus to downtown Tacoma To downtown Seattle.

Thanks, I had not looked at the 554, it's listed as Lakewood-Seattle, did not know it went via Tacoma

That sounds like a very viable option! Can you buy the fare on the bus, just like any other Metro bus? Any idea how much it is?

The option via SeaTac sounds a little too convoluted, but thanks for letting me know about that one as well

Enjoy your visit to the glass museum. If you are lucky there will be artists working in the hot shop.
