Hello,

I'm moving to Seattle July 5th, and need some recommendations. I'm looking for a studio apartment in Seattle for less than $700 a month. I've looked at the Paul Revere Apartments and Ticino Apartments, both have fairly good ratings one is on 6th Ave South and the other is on 9th Ave. How safe are these areas for a single female in her 30s? I've read conflicting information. I won't have a car so will have to take public transportation to and from work wherever I'm employed so that's why I'm looking more at the downtown area. I don't mind living outside of the Seattle area as long as the commute by public transit wouldn't be too difficult. Seattle has so many different districts and such it's overwhelming and confusing. I think I'd like the International District or Capital Hill district, but don't want to go out of my apartment and see drug use or prostitution and such all the time or deal with public intoxication constantly.

Thank you for any input.

Paul Revere Apartments are in the First Hill neighborhood. I knew someone who used to live there and seemed ok, the studio was small but fine for one person. First Hill is an ok neigborhood mostly apartment buildings. parking is sometimes hard to find on the street. It's walking distance to downtown and there are a couple of grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, Starbucks etc. in the area. There are several large hospitals on First Hill so people sometimes call it "Pill Hill"
It's not extremely dangerous but it's not the safest place either. I wouldn't recommend that a woman walk alone in this area late at night. You see a lot of shady characters roaming around.

Your other choice is at 6th and Yesler which is on the fringes of Chinatown. It's near Harboview and Yesler Terrrace housing project. I would not recommend this location, it is a hub of drug dealing, street drunks, homeless etc. Great Chinese food nearby though!

International District/Chinatown is not really a place to live, especially if you're a single female. Pretty scuzzy and there's always something (not good) going on... plus there's a lot of homeless people around. Same goes for First Hill and Belltown.

I would push Capitol Hill, and all the other regular suggestions (Columbia City, Fremont, Wallingford, Ballard, W. Seattle, et. c. et. c.) as they have frequent bus (or rail) lines, feels safe and have pockets where it's really quiet.

Thank you both for your input. I'm looking more into North Seattle now and places like Shoreline, Edmonds, Lynwood, and also Bremton. They just seem like safer options than downtown and South Seattle areas. I just can't wait to be there just a little more than a week now
