How would the commute be from Edmonds to Issaquah? Would be driving in the a.m.

Unpleasant. Add another 20 minutes for traffic and your looking at an hour.

It could take even longer.

If your job is in Issaquah, I highly highly highly recommend living somewhere near there. Issaquah is a nice area.

It would be painful commute. Edmonds is a lovely place, if you work in downtown Seattle or north. But going to Issaquah? Don't do it. You'll go nuts.

At least an hour. A colleague of mine commutes from Edmonds to Eastgate and that takes an 50 minutes. So add another 15. He occasionally takes the bus: that saves mileage on his car but takes longer.

Why not just live where you work. Commuting is just a dumb idea.

Do the math, assuming 8 hours of sleep and 9 hours of work, that gives you 7 free hours during a day. Take away an hour to get ready in the morning, that gives you 6. You'd be giving up 1/3 of your free time during the week. That is, some well rested prime time you'll spend being stressed and fatigued in your car.

To boot, assuming conservatively, 2 or so tanks of gas a week, you're looking at say $100 in gas, plus depreciation on your car, oil, maintenance. That can easily be $150 per week in after tax expenses. You need to make $225 ish to pay for it. That means that you're spending $10k of pre-tax income just on commuting.

Spend the money on living close to work and you have 1.5 extra hours a day to spend with kids, run, drink, bbq, bike, golf, go out with friends, and all of those real life things. That's not counting the quality of life you get by being outside of a car in traffic.

My son cummuted from Sammamish to Edmonds, and finally moved to Edmonds. Even with his early start time it was just under an hour, and
Issaquah is another 20 minutes. There is no route that's not jammed with commute traffic, going north from the Bellevue area is awful.

Look at Woodinville, Bothell, and Lynwood, though Edmonds is a great place to live.
