I wonder how many languages Andy speaks.

Wegotworms, it's good of you to expose your children to an interest in other languages, the world will be a richer place for them and for those around them as they grow up. Study of language typically includes a study of the etymology of that language, the culture, and their history, and this can provide interesting international perspective that others may lack. Although the French-speaking countries of the world are not currently of as much political or economic importance as some other countries, in 1950 people probably did not anticipate the future importance of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Spanish. Times change, for all Andy knows in 2030 French could be a language of great importance in global affairs. One can never guess.

Good points. In any event, there is no "wrong" language to learn, to be quite honest.
