Work is a nightmare, my boss just found another job and put in his notice yesterday and almost everyone else has been looking for another job for a while now - three people have already found new ones and quit since November. I'm miserable and don't want to be the last to leave - my co-workers are one of the only things that makes going to work bearable anymore. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can put up with this through April and so I'm considering going back to my original date at the end of March (as that's when my lease is up). There's no chance they will lay any one off - I've been hoping for that the past two years now.

So, one of the main reasons I bumped it forward to April was because of the drive from Texas to Washington. I'm concerned the end of March will still have crazy weather in the mountains and figured the end of April would be better. The route I'm planning to take is through Amarillo, TX up to Cheyenne, WY then to Butte, MT and finally to Seattle. My alternative is from Amarillo to Twin Falls, ID then to Pendleton, OR and on to Seattle.

Any advice or suggestions? Is it too much of a crap shoot at the end of March or is the end of April equally risky? I have to make up my mind on my move date by February 1st since I have to give a 60-day move out notice (stupid TX rental bullcrap). I seriously can't wait to get out of this godforsaken state!!!!

Well, I can tell you that Amarillo in April is fabulous. As far as the rest of your journey...probably a crap shoot.

I am sorry your stay in Texas has been so disappointing. I am a transplant from Illinois and I love Texas. Then again, I live in Amarillo and not Houston. I wouldn't want to live there either....it's just too big and miserably hot and muggy in the summer.

Good luck to you!

You can't really count on safe road conditions until Mother' Day in May, and the high mountain may even get snow in June. here in the Seattle area we have seen snow as late as early April. I would just be prepared and go for it. The chances of nasty weather are much less the end of March but be ready for anything.

Your best route if you worry about weather is 40 via Albuquerque and Flagstaff to I5 in California, then north all the way up. That way you have only the Siskiyou Mountain Passes and Grant's Pass in Oregon and they keep those pretty clear.

I agree with this. You sound like you're just waiting for the calendar to tick forward. At this point, I would just load up and go as soon as it was feasible. The weather is not going to be that bad and if you come across anything, you can always stop a day and wait for it to pass.

Thanks for the responses! I was having a particularly bad day when I wrote this, and needed to vent somewhere! Anyway, yeah I am pretty much just counting the days, but I also have a lot of things to coordinate for the move. Since everything is pretty much planned out for end of April, I will try to stick to that, but at least knowing the end of March wouldn't be horrendous is good knowledge. I have a pad day just in case, but I'm really hoping it will be uneventful!
