My family and I are moving to the Seattle/Tacoma area in a couple of months. My job is in Federal Way. We are renting a home and are looking for a community with good public elementary schools. So far we are considering Maple Valley, Gig Harbor, University Place and parts of Puyallup. Any other area within a 30-minute drive to FW that we should consider?

Thanks!

Look into Lake Tapps and Bonney Lake. The Dieringer School District is pretty well regarded.

Lakeland South (which is between Federal Way and Auburn) has some good elementary schools.

I agree with Lake Tapps and Bonney Lake, but of those you said you are considering, I would eliminate all but Maple Valley if you want good schools.

Not necessarily. He wasn't asking for the creme de la creme schools. All those areas definitely have good schools.

Actually, if he were to look into OSPI report card (Washington State Report Card ), he would notice that students at the Dieringer SD (Lake Tapps/Bonney Lake area) predominately perform better than the students in the Tahoma SD (Maple Valley). Dieringer SD is also a very small school district, not even having a high school; whereas Tahoma SD is definitely experiencing growing pains as lots of people are moving there for the good schools.

University Place is also (a bit) smaller than Tahoma SD but has more of a socio-economic variety-- which pulls the scores down a bit. It is otherwise a very good school district.
