Hi all, I'm in North Seattle right now so not too familiar with the ongoings in South Seattle. I'm wondering if anyone knows what areas are being developed/poised for growth. I checked out Auburn and know they're making that "Supermall". Which areas will that draw other than Auburn since I know they have a big shopping area in Fed way on 320th.
Where do people that live in Fed Way/Auburn/Renton/Kent and surrounding areas usually work? Local or Tacoma/Bellevue/Seattle?
I'm trying to find a busy area/street where there's great visibility (e.g. if there's traffic/main artery to go from one area to another), connecting the residential and shopping areas. The supermall area seems busy but it's quite large and many exits and entrances.
I checked out Renton and McGrady way and the entrance to SR 167 seems good with a lot of traffic (where are people going in that area because there's a lot of exits along 405 to Renton), but seems like they're going to develop that into more of a downtown shopping with a superwalmart coming soon? Seems like the dealership across from Walmart is up for sale too, anyone know what they're developing there or any website that shows future business developments?
Sunset Blvd and 3rd street also seem like good places but the traffic doesn't seem as busy. Are there a lot of housing expansion planned for eastern Renton?

Check out the enormous project going on in the area of S 178th St and Southcenter Parkway in Tukwila. We happened to drive by this week and hadn't realized how much earth had been moved (and trees removed ) in that area. I believe the name of the project is Tukwila South.

I can't imagine who would want to live in Tukwila, though. That project is supposed to become a new employment center, but not a lot of retail, more like offices and warehouses. The people it will draw will be there from 9-5 and then take off.

I consider Tukiwila similar to Emeryville (in the bay area) in California because of few housing and mostly businesses and retail dominates the town.

Thanks for the replies so far. Tukwila doesn't seem that busy. I'm more interested in retail locations that are somewhat close to the residential areas.

I think that on the light rail line near the Othello St. station, it will develop more. When they built the rail line, a nice new apartment building and retail were built, but they were unable to command the kind of rents they had hoped for, it didn't take off as quickly as they'd hoped, the wonderful gelato and espresso place just went out of business, so it's way too early too call what they've already done successful. It's an area that had scuzzy housing projects not that long ago, and it takes a while to transform a neighborhood. But when you head east on Othello, it doesn't take more than a few blocks for the neighborhood to become the much nicer Seward Park neighborhood.
Othello is just ripe for it. It's too close in to remain a run down, cheap neighborhood. But it might not be right away.
