Hi everyone,

I'm relocating to Seattle soon, to be closer to my family and help support my younger sister. If I can get a job, that is! I've been searching for anything in the public relations/communications/media field for ages. I keep coming across postings from Volt for such positions. I know they're a staffing agency, but most of the positions I would be interested in applying for have been direct hires. I've heard they don't have the greatest reputation with their temp work, so I've been a little hesitant to send anything. Has anyone here had any experience working with Volt? Any stories or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Not with Volt. But I would imagine they are your typical head hunter.

Volt pretty much runs things for staffing with places like Microsoft. All agency placements are about the same. None are "horrid" but none are "stellar" either.

Many many many of the positions with major employers in the Seattle area, are filled through agencies.

You really can't avoid them, and you wouldn't be doing your career any favors to try.

I worked at MS via Volt on 4 seperate 1 year assignments. They aren't horrible but I had some issues with payroll and their lack of responsiveness. It definitely does get you a "foot in the door" with a lot of the major employers, and if you end up not liking the assignment you are put in, there are pretty much no penalties for leaving (although if you do leave an assignment at Microsoft early, you can no longer work at MS through Volt).

Thanks for the responses! It sounds like it would be worth it to send them my resume. I was wondering about Microsoft. I've seen a lot of communications positions on their jobs website, but most have been for someone with 10 years of experience in mind. I'm not quite there yet (7 years in tv news) but noticed they didn't have much in the way of lower level things postings, and now I know why. Thanks again!

I am working a temp contract with Volt Workforce Solutions and it is a nightmare! They delay payments if you need to sumbit for expenses, their interface with my contracted company is horrible, they have multiple person interface when you have problems and nothing gets done! They are so bad at the computing process....I think an 8th grader would ahve better math skills. My advise.....run the otehr way from Volt. Working with them has been like being in the electric chair....Tortuious and shocking,....in a bad way! Volt....revolting!
