We finally made it here!

I found Vital Kids (Dr. Gbedawo) that looks great for specific autism treatments, but I'm not sure about regular routine care. We have two kids on the spectrum, and we need a pediatrician that is experienced in caring for kids with autism. If you know of any practitioner that is familiar with methylation problems and can help us decipher the 23andme test, that would be helpful too! TIA!

mrsengle,

I'm a little confused. I understand Dr. Gbedawo is a holistic type practitioner who works with ASD kids. Can't she recommend a general pediatrician for them? It's really wise to have practitioners who compliment each other and work together caring for children who have special medical needs, as well as general care needs. She knows who she prefers to work with.

What do you mean about a doctor who can help you decipher the 23andme test; who ordered it? That physician or other practitioner should be the one to interpret the test for you.

Good luck getting your team together

MSR

MSR - thank you for your reply. There were a couple of extra sentences I had included in the original post, not sure why they didn't make it in. Here's to proofreading before posting

I have contacted Dr. Gbedawo's office about this, but I haven't heard back. I also didn't have my insurance card at the time (just got them Friday!) - all I knew was that we have Premera BCBS. And you are absolutely right about having complementary physicians. It is very VERY frustrating trying to fight that particular dynamic.

As for the 23andme test, it does not require a physician's order. I did it at the recommendation of a physician in Austin - but between his schedule, my schedule, and the time it took to get the results in, I wasn't able to get him to go over this before we moved. This is a very insightful test and would love to learn more.
