Seems like 3/4 of the bars and restaurants I go to don't act inviting if your group doesn't look like the elite type that is going to spend a ton of money. I'm glad that my neighborhood (Greenwood) has down-to-earth bars that are okay with you hanging out and having a couple beers and ordering an appetizer. Oh well. The upscale breweries in other neighborhoods are all the same anyways; if you've been to one, you've been to them all.

That would be $13, the $15 doesn't totally kick in until 2021.

I have not seen that, but I don't hang out as much in Seattle as the eastside. Since I work there I prefer to leave after. When I go to lunch around Belltown/waterfront the staff all seem as friendly and helpful as always.

Konald, I live in Phinneywood and I agree. We are lucky. Slowly even Greenwood is prettying up, I sold a modest house on NW 83rd st that just closed today for $820k. Real estate prices like that bring changes. Fortunately, there are some old school places up Greenwood or even Aurora, if you dare

I don't know, a friend and myself went up to the top of the old Sea-First building to the Mirabu (sp?) and were denied access because we were wearing jeans and sneakers. This was circa 1989. We simply left and they missed out on our business. But that was just 25+ years ago.

It was The Mirabeau, and they were among the very few that had a dress code. Them, and The Canlis, and i don't really remember others. Maybe Rosellini's, way back when.

I doubt that any place in Seattle would turn down a Jeans&Sneakers guy any more. IMO, their clientele is the jeans and sneaker guy accompanied either by a lady or a bunch of bench mates. The tie and slacks with wingtips are the scroungers.

Maybe the Greenwood people are new home owners, trying to save a few bucks so that they can pay the mortgage and buy diapers.

I was the pantry cook most nights (making salads, plating deserts). Maybe we should have opened things up...the place went out of business 12/31/90 due to lack of customers.

I think that there was a period, perhaps 1950-1990, where Seattle was trying very hard to be a big city, and thus tried to enforce dress standards only toward that goal. Unfortunately, that era ended and today the city is welcoming anyone despite of dress. Oh, wait...except for Canlis. They are the outlander here, and more power to them.

I go out a lot - usually DT, Cap Hill and Belltown, and I can't remember the last time anyone seemed anything but genuinely happy to help me have a great night. However, any night I don't have to cook is a great night, and I am sincerely appreciative that there are good restaurants with amazing food that I do not have to prep, cook, and clean up in order to eat it. Heck someone even brings it to me! Thus I am usually in a happy, thankful, positive frame of mind. People tend to respond to me accordingly. I'm also not the world's sharpest dresser, so I don't think that's a factor.
