it is funny you say that, I grew up in a small town, have lived in Daytona beach, which has high crime rates, I've lived in Oregon, but the only time so far in my 36 years on Earth having my car broken into was in Belltown, was staying in the Belltown in and my car was parked in a parking lot with an alley, came out in the morning to my passenger window smashed out and my camera stolen. Police didn't even come out, they had me file a report online.

I'm not surprised, do not leave anything in your car here. We have a major drug/crime problem that a lot of cities are having. Especially heroin. Watch the Frontline special online chasing heroin. They filmed up here for a year.

Avoid the 99/272nd area = prostitution, drugs, petty crime.
The local PD calls the Crestview West Apartments "Crackview West." I work near the transit center off 320th and knew some of the area officers. They'd advise us ladies not to walk during the day alone, but I never had a problem personally. I do know that there are drugs being sold in the area, but I've worked there since 2010 and never had an issue. Every so often, someone gets mugged in the Commons parking lot. Be aware.

Big Pharma induced Oxy/heroin epidemic = property crime everywhere. These are not the inner-city blacks/hispanics/asians who were addicted by the gangs, but are largely white suburbanites who were addicted by their doctors.

There is a big difference in violent crime, however. The murder rate in Atlanta is five times that of Seattle's.

Absolutely.

Seattle is 4th highest city for property crime, and it seems to be a regional phenomenon. Certainly much higher than Atlanta. I've had cars broken into at trailheads up in the mountains.

In the city, the issue is not concentrated in a few 'problem' neighborhoods like in most cities. My car got broken into on upper Queen Anne 3 times in a year, and my coworkers' homes have gotten hit in Bryant and Ravenna (and I work in a group of 5!). It's sadly a fact of life that people just shrug off like that's what big city life is like.

Violent crime may be lower (though higher in Seattle than LA), but I find that to be much less random in any place. If you have some common sense and don't associate with people prone to violence, it won't be an big issue anywhere.

Violent crime is higher in Seattle than Los Angeles seriously? I had thought the opposite!
