Toronto is a great city, I love the vibrant Carribean, African, Sri Lankan and East Indian communities there.

They didn't say they were only looking in the US. And they do speak English there, eh?

This isn't going to cause a drop in home prices- Amazon will still be huge, will still always be hiring here- it just means that the long term plan for them will be to eventually open a 2nd center for development in another city. So the only affect it could have would be MAYBE in a few years when Amazon's growth slows here as they finally fill their new campus is that home prices COULD level off, or at least slow down in their annual increases in value.

It said they are looking at North America- so Toronto could totally fit the bill... as could Vancouver.

Based on my completely unscientific guesswork, I imagine Amazon has become one of world's leading sellers of hockey goalie masks. Toronto, therefore, is a natural choice. Aboot time!

Toronto absolutely. Vancouver almost certainly not. It's too close to Seattle. I would even go so far as to rule out the West Coast in general.

"Eh, OK!" Toronto should get its bid in, then.

“We should be bidding for this and be very, very competitive and I’m in the midst of talking to the other governments to make sure that’s what we do,” the Toronto mayor said Thursday afternoon

The big plus for Canadian cities is that it's much easier to bring foreign talent into Canada than the US from an immigration perspective, especially in the current environment. Tech companies are already using Canadian satellite offices to house foreign workers with American visa issues.
