So many people don't know the difference between socialism and communism but throw both words around. Lmao.

How do you define her since you seem really hung up on the Communism vs Socialism thing?

She sounds more like a Marxist to me.

At first I was confused by the Amazon head tax. I thought they wanted Jeff Bezos's head on a stick.

Ira, that was hilarious! Hahaha! The sad part of what you said, is in fact, the city of Seattle does want Jeff BEzos head on a stick. If they could seize his bank accounts and extort all his money and redistribute it to the poor (and a nice 25% Administration fee for themselves), I am sure they would.

Oh, and I apologize to those who I offended by calling Kshama Sawant a Communist... Geez, how dare I! Okokok, she is a radically militant Marxist, not a Communist.. My bad

Rotse,

Well said as always!

One thing that has not been mentioned often enough in this debate is the city’s penchant for being absolute wastrels with tax dollars. We spend more on homeless services per capita than any city in the country but we have yet to see any tangible results (we have more homeless than ever). The city even commissioned a study to see how best to approach the problem and like the minimum wage study that didn’t give them the vindication they wanted, they ignored its “inconvenient truths.” In addition the city’s general fund revenue has risen 50% from 2012 to 2017. As Starbucks said, the city doesn’t have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

As for the head tax, you and others have magnificently eviscerated the rationale used to defend it. All I can add is the obvious comment from a bean counter like myself: if you (the city) can’t even tell us specifically how you’re going to spend the money, why should we give you any more? I could pile on, but am instead going to spend as much time as I can over the next couple of weeks going out and getting signatures to try to get the referendum on the city’s November ballot so we can have a real say on this. I encourage all registered voters in the city to sign a petition ASAP as we have only until June 15 to gather the necessary signatures

As for city’s preferred solution of “low barrier” housing where drug and alcohol use is ignored, the less said the better. “Housing first” is one thing but enabling illegal behavior (and effectively subsidizing it) does no one any favors.

One last thing, Rotse. You’ll be missed when you decamp for more amenable climes. Take care and don’t be a stranger.

Tifoso

I read a news article resently that says that cities such as Tacoma and Renton are going to try to capitalize off of Seattle’s mistake.
