What's the purpose of XFL?

My point exactly. They offer some different rules, faster play, etc. Some call it a "minor league for the NFL", but there are a couple of other professional leagues that are doing the same thing. So the jury is still way out on these lower professional leagues. The XFL failed once, (in 2001), but apparently think they can do better today. And Seattle will field a team at Century Link.

it may have been 10 years ago, but an SI survey determined the Canucks, almost by far, were the most followed/popular.

Yes, perhaps by the 1/2 of 1% who follow NHL in Seattle followed the Canucks. But that ain't a big number. Disinterest overall as I posted earlier. Hopefully a local team will change all that.

Lets hope so, for the better. I grew up on LI NY and went to the Islander games during there dynasty. I was 12-14 years old. Fast forward to the early 90's when I lived in Boulder, Co. The Avalanche came to Denver in 95 and won the cup in their very first year in Denver. (Patrick Roy days)

But the nite they won the cups there were riots, fires, flipping over of cars in the city of Denver. BUT THEY WON!!!

Im looking forward to a fresh new team again. In keeping with the thread, I still like The Freeze and The Whales.

Come on. Really, while it's maybe not even 20% it sure is not one either.
Seattle had the 3rd highest SCF ratings in America, in 2011, when the Canucks were in the SCF. Only Boston and Buffalo had higher ratings.

Point taken. But I still maintain Seattle is #1 a football town, and a tie for #2 with baseball and soccer, though the soccer fans are perhaps more fervent than baseball fans in the area.

Despite all the success of the Sounders, wouldn't a Mariners' World Series title garner much, much bigger local tv ratings and an even higher disparity in parade attendance turnout?

It'll be a best of 7 championship versus a one-time match in soccer, thus captivating the city for a much longer period of play. Same could be said of almost anyh city where MLS competes with other major leagues despite MLS' major advances in recent years.
