Doctor, there are worse ideas than living in Bellevue and working in Seattle. But if you have funny hours, may wish to live closer to UW Med. Seems to me physicians end up with odd hours sometimes.

You'll lean hard on mass transit, driving into Seattle is tougher all the time. They don't want you to, though U District is not "downtown" by any means. Look at Bellevue transit center and the routes, and puzzle out if that will work. They may be on funny hours and routes due to COVID.

If you drive Bellevue to UW Med, "it depends!" Timing is everything. I live in Kirkland and that's a straightforward drive on the 520 to Montlake Blvd and off you go. You'll want to study traffic patterns in Montlake, however, as that can get massively screwed up various times of the day and depending on UW games, when they restart.

Eastlake, Portage Bay, Wallingford and even Center of the Universe Fremont are good areas that are close in to UW~10minute auto, maybe 15 minutes by bus. Bikeable. Walkable within 1.5 miles. Flat, mostly.
DS used to live in east Wallingford and biked to Udub. We had a tenant in Eastlake that bused or biked to UW Med.
Phinney Ridge and Independent City of Ballard will work with maybe a doubling of commute times.
All mentioned areas have a good amount of commercial neighborhood stores, restaurants.
On the Eastside, Bellevue, ClydeHill, Redmond, will work with express bus. Kirkland will work with 255 bus. All ~<30 minutes max because of the bus lanes.
Currently a surplus of rental apts. Shop till you drop.

I recommend the Capitol Hill autonomous zone, otherwise known as CHAZ. I hear it’s very quiet and relatively crime free......

Anyone recommend North Capitol Hill/Stevens? Would be walking to work in the dark in lower Capitol Hill. Also with weird hours. Good idea? Bad idea? Suicidal? Looking for opinions.

If I'm going to drive anyway, I might as well live in Laurelhurst or Queen Anne with a killer view.

^Only if you have a E-Bike. Seattle is kinda hilly, like SanFrancisco. And with good rain gear .

The premise here is flawed. There are plenty of killer views from Capitol Hill, and driving from Queen Anne (Denny or Mercer corridor) and especially Laurelhurst (Montlake bridge, 520 and UW traffic, ugh) would be awful.

If you can afford it, north to east Capitol Hill a short distance removed from the bustling of Broadway is possibly the best spot in all of Seattle.

Do you need to live in a high rise in Capitol Hill to have the view? East slope of Stevens? Haven't seen many houses in Capitol Hill with any view.

A few places: NE Capitol Hill (think the area North and East of Volunteer Park) East of 15th can have striking views. Also the far north of Capitol Hill on the east side. One more place, as Broadway becomes 10th (think near and north of Aloha), if you head west of 10th into those neighborhoods (and even homes in the west side of 10th itself farther up), there are some hidden historic mansions and nice homes that have stunning Lake Union, Space Needle/Downtown views.
